Bwindi

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in southwestern Uganda, East Africa. Covering an area of approximately 321 square kilometers (124 square miles), Bwindi is renowned for its exceptional biodiversity and, most notably, as a habitat for the endangered mountain gorillas.

The park is characterized by its dense and lush tropical rainforest, with steep hills and valleys that contribute to its “impenetrable” reputation. Bwindi is one of the last remaining habitats of the mountain gorilla, and it is estimated that almost half of the world’s population of these critically endangered primates resides here.

Tourists visit Bwindi to engage in gorilla trekking, a unique and intimate wildlife experience that allows them to observe and interact with habituated mountain gorilla groups in their natural habitat. The park is also home to other primate species, including chimpanzees and various monkeys, as well as a diverse array of bird species, making it a significant destination for ecotourism and conservation efforts.

In addition to its wildlife, Bwindi is culturally rich, hosting several indigenous communities such as the Batwa pygmies.
